How to Appeal to Surrogates Based on Our Profile
When working with Bright Futures Families, both the intended parents and the gestational carrier get to review a profile before they decide to move forward with a match meeting. Luckily, with an agency, on both sides if there are any questions regarding the profile then you are able to ask those questions to the agency versus doing the independent route where you would have to directly ask questions to the intended parent which can at times seem awkward when you don’t know them yet. Our profiles ask many questions that can help really get an understanding of the other party by reviewing the profile. The profile is intended to give you an idea if you would like to take a step further and schedule a match meeting where you can really get to know the other party.
When intended parents come on board with us, they get an application where they need to answer many questions, and those questions and answers help us create the profile. It is very important that you take your time when responding to those questions. Think about each question carefully before you answer it. Take as much time as you need to give potential gestational carriers a thorough understanding of who you are. Make sure you complete the application when you have enough time set aside to complete it and aren’t rushing.
Being honest is key here as well when you are answering the questions on the application. Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship and that is no different when searching for your gestational carrier. Be authentic and honest to show the real you and let your personality shine through. That can be difficult when answering questions, but you want potential surrogates to see what you are really like and what your hopes, desires, and preferences are. Don’t be afraid to share and be yourself when answering these questions on the application that will ultimately be the foundation to your profile.
Another great tip is to be descriptive when you are giving information about your interests. A one-word answer won’t really help give a potential surrogate any insight into who you are and could make them want to pass on your profile. For instance, if a question asks for your dream vacation and you just answer “Disney” that wouldn’t be descriptive enough to really help her understand why you are choosing that as your dream vacation. If you said, “Disneyland Paris because my mom always told me she would take me there when I was a child, but unfortunately that never happened and I would love to take my own child one day!”- That would be a far more relatable and descriptive answer that would help the potential surrogate understand you and connect with you more.
A huge one is the profile photos that you send the agency to use. You want to choose photos that really help the gestational carrier connect to you and your life. Another tip would be to ask friends and family (if you are sharing with them that you are pursuing surrogacy) and their input on what photos really show the real you and show what your life is like and are also nice-looking photos. The photos should be clear, eye-catching, and with natural lighting. It is also great to include photos that “tell a story” and show your support system. For instance, if your family pet is a huge part of your life, you might include a photo of you with your family pet - but don’t just send photos of your pet! Just remember that photos are a great way to connect with potential surrogates and you want to choose a variety of photos that really showcase you and who you are.
The great thing about using an agency is that we polish the profile and carefully check your text for any spelling errors and if you send photos that won’t work or the quality isn’t good enough, we will let you know. Your profile is an excellent tool to get your journey started and attract a gestational carrier who will want to schedule a match meeting with you and hopefully lead to your perfect match!
