Hi, it's Janelle Ibarra at Bright Futures Families Surrogacy with Ask a surrogacy Expert. Our question is: Why does someone choose to become a surrogate? Well, the answer to this will vary from person to person. Generally, what we hear is a recurring theme is that our surrogates really want to help someone and they get joy out of helping someone. And if pregnancy was easy for them, they think that it's just a great gift to give to somebody else is helping them grow their family. Generally they've had uncomplicated, easy pregnancies or they enjoy being pregnant, but their family is complete and they want to help somebody else. Another thing is joining a community of people who either have gone through surrogacy or are interested. It's incredible. And so you have those connections that are lifelong and you also have that connection with the intended parents if you choose to.
And it can really just be life changing. Teaching your children as the surrogate how to help somebody and how to be selfless and what it means to give back and things like that are huge life lessons. Educating people about different ways to build a family, seeing other people go through infertility and wanting to help and maybe they couldn't help that particular person, but generally they could help somebody else. And so usually the people who choose to become surrogates have huge hearts and they just want to give back.
