Hi, this is Danielle Gage, Case Manager at Bright Futures Families Surrogacy, with Ask a Surrogacy Expert. And today our question is how does surrogacy work with being active duty military? If you are active duty military and considering being a surrogate, honestly, due to the nature of active duty and how unpredictable it is, it would be difficult for you to become a surrogate. In fact, if you are a female who is active duty and you would like to be a surrogate and you are in the Army, Marines or the Navy, it just simply isn't possible. It's against their code of conduct and it's in the UCMJ that you aren't permitted to. For the Air Force there is a possibility, but you would have to get approval from your commander and your local JAG office to make sure they are they are okay with you acting as a surrogate. So it kind of depends on which branch you are in if you can consider being one or not. But still, due to just the way active duty military life is, it can be difficult to be a gestational carrier. If you are a active duty military spouse, then that is a different story. And if you are looking for an agency, you can reach out to us here at Bright Futures Families. Thank you for your question.
