Hi, it's Janelle with Bright Futures Families Surrogacy Agency. I'm their social media person, and so one of my roles along with the rest of the team is to take turns answering our Ask a Surrogacy Expert questions. Today's question is, "I hate needles. Do I have to have injectable medication to become a surrogate?" This is a great question and it is really common. So more than likely, yes, you'll have to give yourself medication through an injection. As a surrogate, all GCs (gestational carriers) will have to be on some sort of medication as required by the fertility clinic. And while those medication protocols may vary slightly from clinic to clinic, most will require injectable medication. However, if this is the one thing keeping you from applying, we'd be happy to discuss it with you. Many of our team members have been through IVF, and so they know firsthand what it's like and that may help ease your mind to hear it, what it's like from somebody who's done it before. Of course we're not going to give you medical advice, but we can just share our experiences and help ease your mind in that way. And this is something - honestly, I tell you it's a common question because we discuss it all the time with potential surrogates and surrogates who have been cleared who are starting the process. Honestly, a lot of people will say that self administering medication through an injection is a lot scarier in their head than it actually is in practice.
