What was your favorite or most memorable moment during this whole process?

I have a few most memorable moments during the surrogacy process. First one was finding out I was pregnant and getting that call because it was on Easter and I was afraid I would miss the call. I called the intended parents right after and got to hear their emotional response and we all were crying and it was such a great moment! I also remember at one of the ultrasound I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the intended father was getting a little emotional and took the intended mom by the hand and it was such an amazing moment getting to be a fly on the wall in someone else's experience was very special and really unique.

What was the most unexpected part of this process? Or something you would change?

I would say the most unexpected part of this process would be the recovery after delivery. I forgot how difficult it is to recover after you have a baby and how long it takes to get back to that feeling of "normal" again.

What were some of the benefits of working with an agency?

There are many but some of the top ones are never having to talk with my intended parents about money directly, that is a huge one! Everything went through the agency which was really nice. They also always took good care of us and protected us both every step of the way. We felt prepared for every step because the agency helped prepare us before hand.

What words of wisdom would you share with other/newer gestational carriers?

This is hard because everyone is so different but I would say for me it was such a special journey because I had a good amount of contact with my intended parents. It is not just about the end of the journey and getting to that end goal of a baby but the whole experience was incredibly positive because we had great communication and that is what made it such a special and great experience. Building that relationship with them reminded me of why I was doing this. I got to make friends out of the situation and also we touched each others lives forever by this experience. In other areas of life, you don't get to know other adults in this intimate of a way without this experience as a surrogate.
