Hey everyone, it's Jennifer White, CEO of Bright Futures Families Surrogacy, with this week's Ask Question, which is: How do I know if my health insurance is good for surrogacy?

And it's a great question. It's the kind of question that keeps us all awake at night in surrogacy world. The answer is get a professional review done and so your agency can do it or you can reach out to independent brokers who can do it as well. The one that we like to use the most is Art Risk Financial Insurance Solutions. We send off the policy booklet and copies of cards and they actually check and confirm whether they believe that an insurance policy is surrogacy friendly or not. And then they'll assign a level of risk and things like that so that we can help tell people and advise on that as well. But that's really the best way to do it. If anybody wants to call privately and you ask and you ask some random rep that you call and they say yes, that's not fully a guarantee because there's a lot of codes and finities in the background. Also conversely, if you call and they say no, some sometimes they think people are asking about if you can use a surrogate and use the health insurance. And so then the question is skewed the wrong way and people falsely think that their insurance will not cover. So really the best way to do it is to have a professional review done. It's not very expensive as of this point in time. It's like $300 for a five day business day turnaround. It's not expensive at all and really worth it for that peace of mind. But that's how we know that's our trick in the background. There is no magic to it, is that we also use professionals to find out for us so hope that helps.
