Hey, everyone, it's Amanda Kinnard-Fuchsgruber, Director of Bright Futures Families Surrogacy, with this week's Ask Question. And today's question is: What happens if there's a complication during the pregnancy or birth?

Honestly, this is a really hard answer. What is the complication? When does it happen during pregnancy? This is one of the times that open and honest communication is important between the carrier and the intended parents. The intended parents should also have access and be able to speak with medical professionals about the complication in the situation and what may be best for their baby, as well as the surrogate. You can ask your agency to help if you're using one, and you may need to reach out to attorneys or even a mental health professional to help both parties through this situation. It really is a sticky situation, and it's best if everyone's working together.
