Hi, it's Janelle Ibarra of Bright Futures Families Surrogcy with Ask a Surrogacy Expert. Our question is can I become a surrogate if I've had my tubes tied? Yes, this is actually an excellent situation for a surrogate because as you know, IVF medication makes you very fertile and if you're not ovulating or you don't have your fallopian tubes or whatever, the less likelihood that you might accidentally conceive. Even though you're not supposed to be partaking in sexual intercourse during that time, less likely that you will conceive your own child during that time. Also just worth noting, the embryo is created using either gametes from the intended parents or donors. So no, you do not need to have your tubes and you don't need to be ovulating because baby is not genetically related to you. So yes, having your tubes tied is an excellent situation to become a surrogate. However, please don't misunderstand that it is not a requirement. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
