Question: “Will I have to travel a lot as a gestational carrier?”
Answer: While it’s hard to quantify “a lot'“, Amanda explains that potential surrogates can expect to travel to some degree throughout their surrogacy journey. Factors that may affect travel include the location of the intended parents’ fertility clinic (whether it is local to the surrogate), the number of appointments, unique or unforeseen circumstances, and more.
Ready to start your journey as a gestational surrogate?
Hey everyone, it's Amanda Kinnard-Fuchsgruber, Director of Bright Futures Families Surrogacy, with this week's Ask Question. And today's question is, will I have to travel a lot as a gestational carrier? And that's kind of hard to answer because what's a lot? But to be honest, you do have to travel for the physical screening at the intended parents clinic, which could be a one, two or three day trip. Sometimes you have to travel for an ultrasound before transfer, which we really tried to just make a one day trip, but it really depends on your flights and things that are available. So it could be two days and then typically. Well, and then obviously you have to travel for transfer, but typically that is either three to five days. Sometimes we can make it two. It just depends on the clinic bed rest standards, flights available, what time the transfer is, all of those lovely fun things. And yes, sometimes on these trips you need a companion and sometimes you don't. So there's lots of different variables that play into this, but it's really about the intended parents clinic and what they are expecting for travel and for things that you need to go to the clinic for. Otherwise, we do try to find things that are local to you. We can obviously help answer those questions and let you know more specifics once you are matched with intended parents. Hope that helps. Have a great day.
