How surrogacy works for Intended Parents

Hi, this is Danielle, case manager with Bright Futures Families Surrogacy, with Ask a Surrogacy Expert. And today our question is can you be a surrogate for a relative? Possibly would be the answer. Not just anyone can be a surrogate. And all surrogates, even a relative, must meet a certain criteria for medical, physical and mental health standards. So while it may be possible to request that a relative be your surrogate or that you be a surrogate for your relative, you'll still have to pass all of the testing that is required of anyone who wants to be a gestational carrier, even with a family member. While you can work independently, these are relationships that you want to protect. And it's really important to consider using an agency to handle the difficult conversations that come with just the process and the logistics of surrogacy.

If you want more information, please reach out to us here at Bright Futures Families and we would love to help you. Thank you for your question.
